Chapter 1: Story of Rey

The sunlight streamed through the blinds too early that day. The humidifier had stopped sometime in the night. She closed her eyes one more time. After a while she got up and sleepwalked to the bedroom door, then she came back to tidy her bed before she left the room. While then, she heard the garbage truck rolling into the neighborhood with a sound reminding her this is a Wednesday morning.

Rey slowly walked to the mirror and was ready to start her routine for the day. She simply kept staring at her in the mirror, her hair all messed up. She couldn't stop looking into her eyes to see if there were any answers? Rey was lost for the past eleven years. She had worked on healing in many ways but was not able to come to terms with or understand. She felt like a schoolgirl, where everything was not in her control.

Gone are the days when everyone has to have a uniform and fit into a mold. The objective is to make everyone feel they have the same and level the field. These past years, she understand her life is unique. Challenging is the better word. Life has thrown a kitchen sink at her. She could not blame anyone, but all she knew is, this is not right.

For a person who wants to see the glass half full in any situation, she has at times begun seeing the glass not really full. She wanted to get mad, at whom? All she can do is shed tears sometimes and keep cursing herself to step out of that thought.

It was very fast. She felt like life moved in slow motion while it was happening. Now that, a decade is lost and she is no longer the smart, precocious, brave, disciplined, and beautiful girl she was.
